Irises are another (alongside Sunflowers) of Trachter’s surviving paintings of flowers. Inspired by impressionism, the work is a valuable testimony to the cultural life in interwar Lublin. It proves that art can be a bridge between people originating from different social milieus but sharing the same sensitivity – for example a Jewish painter and a Catholic priest. Rev. Ludwik Zalewski, a graduate of the University of Freiburg, a well-known Lublin bibliophile, received Irises from Trachter as a gift.
