Title: Interwar Photography on the Basis of Photos of the Bund and Selected Photos from the "Archeologia Fotografii" Foundation Collection
Type: Lesson
Author: Maciej Turczyniak
Description: The lesson focuses on photos taken by the Bund in the interwar period and pre-1939 photos from the archives compiled by the Archeologia Fotografii" Foundation.
In the interwar period, photography became a common part of material culture, used both as a communication medium and means of artistic expression. The development of daily press and easier access to photographic resources and cameras led to photography becoming not only a realm of art but also a tool for documenting reality and taking snapshots of everyday life – both private, for instance on holidays, but also public, as a staple element of daily newspapers, magazines, and propaganda. Photography became a domain open for “amateurs” who, without any formal training, were able to take photos as we do today – for the fun of it.
