Description: In the "Berlinka" collection we find a few pictures or graphics with images of women. They are lost in the wealth of proud, male characters that have become famous in the fields of medicine, education, philanthropy, literature, art, theology, economy or politics. Women's biographies are also not so well described and documented in publicly available sources.
That is why we invite you to take a journey through the stories of women in the German-speaking and partly American area. Through them, we will learn about the history of Berlin and Germany at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Their biographies were marked by wars, pogroms, political upheavals and the need to emigrate. The women did not hesitate to meet the challenges they faced. They took on responsible roles, adopting individual emancipatory strategies: from social activism, through involvement in women's movements, conversion, literary and acting. Their story begins in 1830 with the birth of Lina Morgenstern and ends after World War II, which few manage to survive.
