Description: The socrealistic neighborhood of Muranów in Warsaw was built on the burnt ruins of the pre-war Northern district. It is one of the most interesting places on the map of Warsaw before 1939.
The street of Nalewki was the beating heart of the Northern district. The intersection of Nalewki with Gęsia and Franciszkańska, full of streetcars, wagons, merchants and salesmen, was one of the busiest places in the entire city. This is where in the 1920s Jewish life, trade and culture flourished. And this is where the so-called big ghetto was during the German occupation.
