Description: The Oneg Szabat Program was created by the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute in Poland in order to spread the knowledge of the Underground Archive of the Warsaw Ghetto, provide the general public with access to preserved archival documents, and commemorate the members of Oneg Shabbat.
The Oneg Shabbat group preserved the memory of Jews imprisoned in the Warsaw Ghetto and their death in extermination camps. It resisted the German repressions with defiance and intellectual work. The fruit of their efforts – the Underground Archive of the Warsaw Ghetto – has become the most significant testimony of the Holocaust.
The Oneg Szabat Program was brought to life to continue the mission of Ringelblum’s associates – to protect the memory of Polish Jews. Its aim is to make the entire society aware of the Archive and its founders. The Ringelblum Archive forms part of the “memory of the world” and the Oneg Shabbat group is one of its ethical leaders.
